About 3.5 billion people lives in cities today, and 95 percent of urban expansion in the next decades will take place in developing world. Many countries are currently initiating health and environmental reforms to meet the increasing demand for health services, energy, transportation, and housing while improving quality and ensuring financial sustainability. As health and environmental systems globally strive to balance the achievement of high quality with universal access and low costs, the need for smart, innovative, and evidence based approaches have never been more imperative. The high density of cities can bring efficiency gains and technological innovation while reducing resource consumption.
