Smart Future Enablers

The word smart can imply many perspectives and can be used to convey many different conditions depending on the context. It can imply efficiency, technology, accuracy, happiness….etc. His highness Sheikh Mohammed launched a strategy to transform Dubai into a smart city. Under the strategy, 1000 government services would go smart by 2017. The implementation of smart future can be done through many different cascaded activities such as smart living, smart mobility, smart governance, smart people and smart economy. The transformation towards smart future is a must for any community seeking global recognition to attract businesses, tourism and investments. This transformation towards smart future necessitate the integration of the state of the art information and communication technology infrastructures in the domains of artificial intelligence, big data analysis and cloud computing, and sensor networks. The smart tools should be extended to facilitate the quality of life for individuals and enhance the growth of businesses. Adopting the future of smart future concept has many positive consequences such as doing things more efficiently, reducing the ecological foot print, minimizing the negative environmental impact on the available resources which can fuel the economic growth in the community. In the education arena, learning will be efficient as students will save a lot of time commuting to the school and attending the school only when they are needed to do so. This will in turn reduce the overload of current health care centers and hospitals with the enhancement of the remote health care provision. We need to be prepared to this transformation, one of the enablers of smart future is to be prepared against the possible negative consequences such as lack of privacy and cybersecurity, the lack of mobility and associated diseases, lack of social interaction among people. Accordingly, smart future enablers should look into the possibility of minimizing the possible negative consequences to ensure smooth transformation. During IA14, attendees will have a great opportunity to exchange experience, show case their best practices and discuss the essential requirements for smooth safe transformation towards the smart future.
